Contrary to what many players believe the number one reason for mishitting shots either "thin" or "fat" is not lifting their head up. Rather, it is letting the head of the golf club release in front of the shaft before impact with the golf ball. This unnecessary "scooping" movement usually caused by the mind trying to help the ball up in the air, does the opposite. The club bottoms out prior to the ball and is now moving up while at the ball so the ball is struck with the bottom of the club around the equator of the ball. Players should be very passive with their hands in a good swing and rather let the arms swing down to the ground and simply rotate through impact. The best tool I have ever seen for this is called the "Tour Striker" training aid which is available in my golf shop. Simply hit balls with this club and over time your ball contact will be ideal. Come check it out in the golf shop or visit www.tourstriker.com.
